Invoice finance makes mark in construction industry | Business ...

Building firms and property developers may still be struggling to secure business finance from banks, but an increasing number of companies are looking to invoice discounting and invoice factoring in order to raise funds.

Wilkins Kennedy, an accounting firm, has conducted research that shows how invoice finance increased by 17% last year ? from 1,629 companies raising funds in 2011 to 1,911 in 2012.

The latest data from the Bank of England reveals that issues with being given credit from banks has led to borrowing in the construction industry falling to only ?20bn.

Wilkins Kennedy Head of Property, Nick Parrett, said of the research findings:

?The construction industry has been badly hurt by the reluctance of banks to lend to even the most solvent businesses in this sector.?

He said that the banks were deterred from negative experiences, which means that construction companies are left with seeking alternative finance options.

The company?s numbers from invoice financing showed that this method of raising finance has grown since 2007 by 65%.

Business level numbers from last year released by the National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers confirmed that business finance has proven difficult to access when it comes to traditional lenders, but that alternative finance providers are filling the gap.

The numbers show that there was a ride of more than 4% of commercial finance overall by its 83 lending members.

The asset finance and lending sector grew by an impressive 100%, having been lent the most by lender members of the NACFB.

Angry Birds is a video-game franchise created by Rovio Entertainment Ltd., based in Espoo, Finland. It has become popular all over the world and is now used by educators in the United States to teach math concepts.

Sweeney launching small-business tour | Politicker NJ

TRENTON ? Senate President Steve Sweeney, a possible gubernatorial candidate, is launching a series of meetings with small businesspeople.

The first stop on his ?Small Business Listening Tour? will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at KMB Design Group in Wall.

Then at 1:30 p.m., he will be at Kelsey & Kim?s Southern Caf? in Atlantic City.

?New Jersey?s economy has been stuck, with unemployment remaining nearly unchanged over the last few years,? Sweeney said in a release announcing the tour.

?We have worked on various bills in the Legislature, but we can always do more.?This tour is about hearing the concerns of small business owners and finding out what they need to succeed and grow in New Jersey.??It?s not about pushing an agenda, or touting what we have done.??It?s about hearing what they need.?

Sweeney said the tour is a way to promote and highlight the?"Jersey Shore Is Open for Business"?campaign to help alert residents to stores and businesses that are open in the areas hardest hit by Superstorm Sandy.

The project is being done in conjunction with the New Jersey Restaurant and New Jersey Retail Merchants Associations, as well as the Jersey Shore Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Leading candidates in Israel's election:

?Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to return to power in Tuesday's elections after nearly four years as prime minister. Netanyahu insists he has mobilized the international community against Iran's disputed nuclear program and brought economic stability despite global financial downturns. His opponents counter he has ignored the Palestinian conflict and estranged Israel from world powers, particularly its main ally, the U.S.

?Avigdor Lieberman, the former foreign minister and one of Israel's most divisive and ultranationalist politicians, is running on a joint list with Netanyahu's Likud. His Yisrael Beitenu party is expected to join the next government, but Lieberman's own future remains unclear. He stepped down as foreign minister late last year after he was indicted on charges of breach of trust and fraud. Lieberman draws many of his supporters from Israel's 1 million immigrants from the former Soviet Union.

?Shelly Yachimovich, a former broadcaster and leader of Israel's Labor Party, took over Labor in late 2011 at one of its lowest points. She revitalized the party, moving it away from its traditional platform of promoting peace with the Arabs and focusing almost entirely on economic and domestic issues. She has ruled out joining a Netanyahu-led coalition. Critics accuse her of ignoring Israel's diplomatic and security challenges and failing to present a viable alternative to the security-obsessed right.

?Naftali Bennett has been responsible for the surging popularity of the once-marginal religious Jewish Home party. Bennett rejects the idea of a Palestinian state and wants Israel to annex parts of the West Bank. Polls suggest that the high-tech entrepreneur and former military commando has a crossover appeal to secular Israelis as well.

?Yair Lapid leads the new Yesh Atid, or "There is a Future" party. Lapid left his job as anchor of a popular weekend news TV show to set up a party representing middle class needs. Lapid wants ultra-Orthodox Jewish men to serve in the military and enter the workforce, instead of getting subsidies to pursue religious studies.

?Tzipi Livni, a former foreign minister, formed a new party, "Hatnua," or "the Movement," putting peacemaking with the Palestinians at the top of its agenda. Livni was the chief negotiator with the Palestinians under a previous government.
