A helping hand for local employers

Businesses today have a long list of needs to meet. Small and medium-sized companies in particular can find human resource issues a real challenge. Staffing, training, workplace safety and employment standards are just some of the issues that can be time-consuming and quite involved. Employers will be happy to learn that help is available.

The Workforce Skills Centre in Newmarket is a wonderful resource for local business owners. They offer a variety of employer-focused services to help you run a safer, more productive and efficient business.

The Centre is able to help employers in five major areas: resource and information; job matching, placement and incentives; essential skills; job training and retention; and professional development. Centre staff can in fact assist you no matter what stage your business is at.
If you?re looking to hire new staff you can post available jobs on the Centre?s job board and web site. You can also find out about occupational and training requirements, human resource planning, recruitment tips and workplace training. Businesses may even be eligible to receive hiring incentives if they provide on-the-job training. Please visit the Centre and speak with staff to determine if your business is eligible.

The Centre has many resources that focus on essential skills. Staff can help you develop job descriptions and postings. You can get help with hiring checklists, learn how to test for essential skills, work on interview skills and get tips on how to assess candidates.

Employers also have ongoing support in the form of coaching and follow-up after their initial hiring needs have been met. Staff can assist with the development of retention plans to ensure your workforce stays strong. They can also suggest professional development strategies. All training can be customized.
