Oakland Raiders' Jacoby Ford has foot injury

The Raiders will be perusing the waiver wire in search of wide receivers and return specialists in the wake of another foot injury suffered by Jacoby Ford, coach Dennis Allen said Saturday.

Ford underwent an MRI exam, but Allen said it has yet to be determined how much time he will miss. The injury was to Ford's left foot, just as it was last season when he missed six of the last seven games.

Allen said reports "don't seem to indicate" ?the injury is significant, but he wasn't ready to proclaim Ford good to go when the season begins Sept. 10 against the San Diego Chargers.

"I don't know the answer to that. Is there a chance? Yeah, there's a chance. We still got to continue to look at it and see what type of time frame we're looking at. "

The hope going into the season was that Ford would serve in the rotation of receivers along with Darrius Heyward-Bey and Denarius Moore, and also be the primary return specialist for kickoff and punt returns.

Moore remains out with a hamstring strain, and chances are he won't face Detroit, with the training staff pointing at Week 1 of the regular season for his return.

For now, Allen said defensive back Brian McCann moves up in the pecking order on kick and punt returns but noted "that's obviously a position we've got some concern over, and we're going to be evaluating the guys we have here, and we're going to be looking at the rosters of the other 31 teams and see if there's

anyone who becomes available that can help us."

Ford's injury was the most significant arising from a 31-27 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Heyward-Bey (shoulder) and quarterback Matt Leinart (laceration on right index finger) will be monitored this week in practice, but their injuries aren't considered serious.

Running back Mike Goodson, who had some weakness in his shoulders after a hit that caused his second fumble of the game, was examined and cleared. Allen said the injury wasn't related to Goodson's earlier neck injury.

Allen expressed confidence in quarterback Carson Palmer, who threw an interception and missed an open Darren McFadden for a potential touchdown against Arizona.

"I think Carson is still learning this offense," Allen said. "I don't have any reservations or any doubt at all about Carson Palmer."

Perhaps even more impressive than rookie Rod Streater's seven receptions against Arizona was his hustle in running down Kerry Rhodes on a 60-yard return of a Palmer interception.

"It's exceptional, and that's something everybody on this team needs to understand and see, because that's the type of effort that we're going to need to win,'' Allen said.

The Raiders hope to have both running back Taiwan Jones and tight end Brandon Myers on the practice field this week, Allen said. The Raiders will have a no-pads practice Sunday afternoon and will take Monday off.
