Bing expands its social integration.
With over 300 million photos uploaded to Facebook each day thehe new feature aims to make it easy for users to find a certain photo instead of browsing through thousands.
"We are taking this a step further and letting you search and browse your Facebook friends' photos right in Bing," said Ian Lin, senior program manager at Bing's social team. "Now simply by clicking on a photo in the sidebar, you will be linked to a full experience on Bing where you can see more photos from your Facebook friends that match your search."
By using Bing's sidebar a user can see which friends have posted photos related to search terms. The search feature takes into account photo title, captions and album descriptions, along with finding friends who might be able to help in searching for a certain photo.
Bing's search sidebar also allows the option to search for other relevant photos or browse the latest photos from friends.
Only Facebook photos that have been made viewable will show when browsing. Bing asserts that Facebook photos will not be shared with the public.
To access the new search feature go to www.bing.com/friendsphotos and log in to your Facebook account. The feature is available to use after authorizing the Bing app.
Bing powered search has seen a rise of 5% since May last year.
Data from Experian Hitwise, an online data measurement company, revealed that Bing search had risen 5% in its share of searches compared to data released in May 2011.
Google still ranks as the top search engine accounting for 65% of the U.S. market but it's share had dropped by 5% in the past year while Bing's has risen 5% suggesting that the search engine is slowly converting Google search users.
