Components Of Being In Long Term Romantic Relationships ...

When I hear about celebrity couples breaking up, I?m reminded how difficult it is to keep any relationship going.? This morning there was a picture of Heidi Klum in some Yahoo! article, sitting in a bikini on a beach.? Klum is one of the ?all-time most beautiful women? in the world, with a sparkling personality, pleasant disposition, hard work ethic, easy social skills, and radiant smile.? Yet,?at some point, she apparently became insufficiently attractive to her partner.? And this made me think:

It is rare to find someone who can be attractive to you for many years.? It is probably more rare to be someone who can find another person genuinely attractive for many years.? And to find two people who can maintain sufficient gravity and chemistry with each other -?is probably even more rare.

Often I hear people lamenting about how many marriages don?t last ? ?over 50 percent? ? whether or not the figure is accurate.? Conversely, I?m surprised that maybe over 40% of marriages endure.? Those seem longer odds.

My personal problem (if you want to call it that) has not been ?falling out of love,? but rather the opposite.??But I?ve been fortunate?to have?had companions?with so many rare and good qualities that it would be difficult for almost anyone to fall out of love with them.? So, I don?t think my personal experiences mirror most others? experiences?- but I don?t know.? The women I?ve loved have, above all, been very socially intelligent ? the smartest people I?ve known well ? not that I know very many people well.

But then I hear about someone falling out of love with a person who I consider to be very socially attractive, and I get confused.? How could they have fallen out of love with such a gifted and quality?person???Since I was a child, and I could form thoughts, I?ve wondered about these questions.? Knowing my mother as long and as well as I do, I could never understand how my father fell out of love with her ? a mystery my biased heart probably?will never figure out.? I can only conclude my father must have been a fool in matters of love and relationships.? That?s the only way I can understand their history.? But what do I know?? Well, I know my mother was as worthy, as attractive, as intelligent, and as full of potential as any person I?ve known.? But often,?that is not enough.

What would my father think if he were asked these questions?? I think he might agree with me.? Or at least, he would not argue with me.? Instead, he?d probably hand me a Kleenex to?dry my tears.

There are some people who appear to have little emotional heartache when a romantic relationship breaks up.? The book review I?m publishing tomorrow is about a book where the main character?asserts he did not go through much emotional sorrow or turmoil?when his long-term romantic relationship ended ? an interesting opposite to someone like me.? I?ve had people advise me to just ?move on,? and I do, but I also choose to feel and remember the lost connections. lost potentials.

To be a member of a long-term relationship -?it?s never within your control.? And it?s not enough to be genuinely attractive.? And it?s not enough to be a person who can stay in love with another person for a long time.? Even more is needed, and many diverse stars must?keep re-aligning.

This is part of the reason we genuinely clap when lengthy anniversaries are announced.? We congratulate the couple with some respect and admiration not only?because they proved to be well-matched or worked hard together for a long time, but also because we know that in almost all such cases, great conflicts have been overcome, and often, almost assuredly,?great mistakes have been addressed or forgiven.

The overwhelmed homeowner feels absolutely lost, not knowing where to turn, and thinks that contacting the lender will be a waste of time. This is absolutely the most serious and costly mistake a homeowner can make.

To Avoid It: whatever you do, if you are facing foreclosure, take some action, contact your lender and contact an experienced attorney or government agency as soon as you can to discuss your options. However, the banks are much less likely to cooperate once the file has reached the Notice of Sale stage, and the NOS has been recorded and published.

#3 MISTAKE: Failing To Get Informed and Make a Strategy To Help You Reach Your Goal

All too often, California homeowners faced with foreclosure are failing to get the help they need to determine what particular solution will work best for them. Due to the countless variations in each homeowner?s situation, solutions are highly dependent on the circumstances of each case. Solutions can range anywhere from moving out and letting the house go to foreclosure, all the way to filing a lawsuit against the bank to fight the foreclosure, and any number of variations in between from getting extensions of the foreclosure, negotiating a short sale, loan modification, deed in lieu, bankruptcy and others.

Braves acquire Maholm, Johnson from Cubs

ATLANTA (AP) ? The Atlanta Braves boosted their rotation and added a right-handed bat to their bench Monday night by acquiring lefty Paul Maholm and outfielder Reed Johnson from the Chicago Cubs.

Braves general manager Frank Wren confirmed the team traded right-handed pitchers Arodys Vizcaino, a top prospect who had season-ending Tommy John surgery in April, and Jaye Chapman to the Cubs. The Braves also got cash in the deal.

With the trade deadline looming Tuesday afternoon, the Cubs figured to keep busy.

Chicago catcher Geovany Soto was pulled from Monday night's 14-4 win over Pittsburgh, as was Johnson, and they both hugged teammates in the dugout. The Cubs were expected to send Soto to Texas.

"He came out of the game and said goodbye," Cubs backup catcher Steve Clevenger said. "Everybody said he was traded and we went on from there."

Cubs ace Ryan Dempster has attracted interest from several clubs. Recently, a deal to send Dempster to Atlanta through.

Instead, with the Braves having won six straight and only 3 1-2 games behind Washington in the NL East and in the thick of the wild-card chase, they plucked another Cubs pitcher.

"It was one of those situations obviously where Atlanta was in the market for a starting pitcher," Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said with a chuckle. "It made the conversation a little bit easier."

"There's certainly no hard feeling from the front office on what happened" with the potential Dempster deal, Hoyer said.

"As the deadline gets closer, people's positions become more clear. I think it will be busy tonight and I think it will be busy in the morning," Hoyer said.

"There will be a lot of calls. Whether we're going to make other deals, we'll see. But I know there will be a lot of phone calls," he said. "I don't think tonight is going to be one with a lot of sleep."

Wren said the team views Vizcaino as a rising power reliever, but he said Maholm and Johnson are players who can make a difference for the Braves' playoff hopes.

"We want to put ourselves in a good position to win the division, not just make the playoffs," Wren said.

"We were looking for a starter, a quality starter that could give us the kind of production we needed up and down the rotation."

Hoyer said trading Maholm, who has an option year for 2013, and Johnson, who will be a free agent, is "the kind of chance we need to take right now."

"We've been really clear all along that we're not contending right now and we need to take assets that are shorter term and turn them into longer term assets," Hoyer said.

"In the case of Vizcaino we had a chance to get a 21-year-old who, while injured right now, has a really bright future. Guy that has a great arm. Kind of power arm we're looking at in the system. Chapman has had good success in Triple-A as a reliever. Another guy we're excited about."

The Braves recently removed Jair Jurrjens from the rotation. Kris Medlen, who has been a key reliever, will make his first start of the season on Tuesday night against Miami.

Wren called the deal "a perfect fit" for the Braves' needs.

"We got two real key fits for us," Wren said.

"If we are done, if nothing else transpires tomorrow, we will be real happy with where we are."

Maholm, 29, is 9-6 with a 3.74 ERA, including a 4-0 record and 1.23 ERA in July. He is 62-79 in eight seasons, including seven with Pittsburgh.

"The thing that keeps coming back from our scouts is he doesn't give in," Wren said.

"To have the opportunity to get a quality left-handed pitcher at any time, we're excited about that."

The Braves will have a $6.5 million option to retain Maholm in 2013.

Johnson is hitting .333 against left-handers this season. He is 13 for 29 (.448) as a pinch hitter.

"We need another right-handed hitter," Wren said, adding the team also had interest in Johnson last year.

Chapman is 3-6 with a 3.52 ERA at Triple-A Gwinnett. Vizcaino was 1-1 with a 4.67 ERA in 17 games with Atlanta in 2011.

The 35-year-old Johnson is hitting .307 with three homers and 16 RBIs. He has played all three outfield positions and is a career .284 hitter.

Johnson started in center field and led off for the Cubs on Monday night. He reached on an error to start Chicago's nine-run fifth inning. After the Cubs batted around, he was due to bat again in the inning but did not come out onto the on-deck circle.

After a brief delay, David DeJesus was sent out to pinch-hit. TV showed Johnson exchanging hugs with teammates.

"It is strange telling two players in the middle of a game," Hoyer said. "It started to leak out about Paul and I wanted to make sure he heard from us first.

"Both guys took it great. They both enjoyed being Cubs."

Added Hoyer: "It's always fun to trade guys to a contender."

Wren said Maholm may join the team in Atlanta on Wednesday. Johnson is expected to join the team on Tuesday.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving in low lying areas which could flood ? street flooding - due to forecasted heavy and persistent rainfall, and/or avoid driving in flooded streets until heavy rains taper off or has ended.?

The Department of Disaster Management has been updated by the Meteorological Department of Curacao that the country is now under a code Orange and a heavy rainfall advisory (is when heavy rains about to occur or occurring already, but not strong enough to require a warning) is now in effect until late Monday afternoon. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving in low lying areas which could flood ? street flooding - due to forecasted heavy and persistent rainfall, and/or avoid driving in flooded streets until heavy rains taper off or has ended. Motorists driving near hillsides are also asked to exercise caution with respect to possible rock falls. Drivers and individuals who do not need to be on the road should remain at home until weather conditions improve. Lightning strikes are also forecasted, and therefore residents should switch off and disconnect sensitive electronic equipment; and disconnect your phone line from your computer. # # # ? Well what a day! Heavy periods of rain on and off all day (much needed) and at 5.29 we had a strong earth tremour! 5.1 on Richter scale apparently ? epicentre was 4 miles east of Stoney Ground, Anguilla, enough to get me to my feet on the second rumble. Our apartment building shook and a number of people felt it serious enough to go outside. Our coffee table was dancing on the floor!

All quiet now, let?s hope it stays that way!

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) ? Coastal residents are advised to have plans in place for possible storm surge in the event of a passing hurricane along the south coast of the country.

According to the Office of Disaster Management, these plans should be in place since before the hurricane season which started on June 1.

The season so far has seen four storms form with the last one being Debby that caused severe flooding and discomfort in parts of the U.S. state of Florida a few days ago.

Property damages that can be expected from hurricanes and coastal flooding have been increasing year by year, and in many places the threat to life is increasing as well, according to the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Most coastal communities are vulnerable to one or more different kinds of flooding and related hazards: frequent flooding from storm surge and winds; and storm-caused erosion of bluffs and beaches.

Coastal areas of Sint Maarten are: Beacon Hill, Cupecoy, vicinity of the Princess Juliana International Airport, Simpson Bay, Pelican, Cay Bay, Belair & Little Bay, Philipsburg, Pointe Blanche, Red Pond, Oyster Pond and Guana Bay.

In the event of a passing hurricane, homeowners should secure their possessions to upper levels of the structure.? If you decide not to stay in your home, you should make the necessary arrangements before the passing of a hurricane on where you would stay to ride out the passing of the storm system.? One should not wait until the last moment to evacuate their home.? Rising storm waters can also flood coastal roads.

The most important link in the chain of preparation and response for coastal flooding is you.? Take the necessary measures to prepare your family and home, according to the Office of Disaster Management.

Here is a check list if you have to leave your home before a hurricane strike due to high storm surge that is expected: turn off water and gas; have a radio and spare batteries; a first aid kit; flashlight; spare bedding; bottled water and tinned food; house keys; prescription medicine; cash and credit cards; mobile phone and spare clothing.

11 Public Shelters Available for Hurricane Season

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) ? Disaster Coordinator/Fire Chief Winston Salomon says there are 11 public shelters available for the hurricane season. A number of buildings are chosen and equipped (prior to a definite hurricane strike) to serve as public shelters.?

These buildings are chosen based on the buildings? ability to withstand hurricane conditions and their height above sea level.?

Space in shelters is limited and is meant for people who feel that their home is unsafe and can?t find another safe place to stay.?

If your home is hurricane proof and is in a safe location, it is probably best to stay there during a storm.? Alternative options are to stay with family or friends whose house is also hurricane proof, however if you are unsure, do not hesitate to go to a public shelter.

Shelters are meant for temporary stay of up to 72 hours. Persons utilizing a public shelter must realize that many people have to share a small space and therefore must be prepared for some amount of discomfort.

There is a management team in charge of the shelter once it is opened. Safety is a main concern, and persons will have to follow shelter warden instructions.

Take the time now to assess your house, and if you can, get an architect to do a proper assessment. This will determine whether you will stay with friends or family or make use of a public shelter.?????

The U.S. National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the parent body of the National Hurricane Center (NHC) out of Miami, Florida, has forecasted a near-normal 2012 Atlantic hurricane season.

The forecasts calls for nine to 15 named storms, of which four to eight can strengthen to become hurricanes, and of that one to three can become major hurricanes.

It only takes one hurricane strike to make this a bad season, and therefore the Office of Disaster Management is urging the community to be prepared as it is your responsibility to do so every season.

The remaining names of potential storms for the 2012 season are: Chris, Debby, Ernesto, Florence, Gordon, Helene, Isaac, Joyce, Kirk, Leslie, Michael, Nadine, Oscar, Patty, Rafael, Sandy, Tony, Valerie and William.

The 2012 hurricane season officially runs through November 30.

Second EOC Meeting held to Assess State of Country Preparedness for Hurricane Season; National Preparedness Level Good

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) ? Disaster Coordinator/Fire Chief Winston Salomon chaired his second pre-hurricane season meeting on Tuesday, held to assess national state of preparedness for the hurricane season.

All stakeholders present representing the 10 Emergency Support Functions (ESFs), gave an update and according to Disaster Section Head Paul Martens, the general state of preparedness and readiness is good.

The hurricane shelters have been identified which is similar to the listing of 2011.? Some upgrading of the shelters will take place within short.

ESF-5/Police is working on a curfew plan, roadblock controls and traffic circulation based on different scenarios.?

ESF-8/Department of Communication: The annual hurricane awareness campaign started with the statement issued mid-May by the Prime Minister calling on the nation to be hurricane ready.

The Meteorological Services is working with the Dutch Service KNMI to get the weather radar back into service.?

ESF-2/Telecommunications (TELEM) is addressing weak spots within in cellular network.?

ESF-3/Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Development, Environment and Infrastructure: Trench cleaning is underway; a new flood water pump system is near completion and emergency contingency plans have been developed for constructions areas such as Dutch Quarter, Middle Region and Cay Hill.

ESF-7/Social Services: the community help desk personnel will be involved with the hurricane shelters, providing district information as well as identifying persons with special needs who will need assistance in the event of a hurricane strike.

Salomon is calling on the Sint Maarten community to make sure they have plans in place for the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, which has already seen the birth of two tropical storms (Alberto, Beryl) even before the June 1st official start of the season.

The second named storm of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season made landfall after midnight on Monday in Florida bringing rain and gusts up to near hurricane force.

Since that forecast, the U.S. National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the parent body of the National Hurricane Center (NHC) out of Miami, Florida, last week Thursday issued their own forecasts predicting a near-normal 2012 Atlantic hurricane season.

This revised forecasts has to do with conditions in the atmosphere and the ocean favoring a near-normal season entails nine to 15 named storms, of which four to eight can strengthen to become hurricanes, and of those one to three can become major hurricanes.

Based on the period 1981-2010, an average season produces 12 named storms with six hurricanes, including three major hurricanes.?

Prime Minister Wescot calls on nation to prepare for 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, even though forecasts suggest reduced activity this season

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) ? Honorable Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams, Chairman of the Island?s Disaster Emergency Management Organization, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), is calling on the Sint Maarten community to begin to prepare timely for the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, and to have the necessary plans in place by June 1st, the start of the season.

The Prime Minister added that the country?s disaster preparedness and emergency management mechanism are expected to be ready to deal with any eventuality arising during the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season.

?I am encouraging the nation to begin to prepare now, so as to mitigate the effects of a possible hurricane disaster in our country. Let?s use the time wisely to prepare our homes, businesses and other structures adequately in the event of a hurricane strike.?

Some of the preparations that should be carried out now are checking hurricane shutters and the roof of your home or business, and to make sure windows close securely.

Persons living along coastal areas as well as those in flood prone areas should start looking at what measures they would take in the event of a hurricane which could cause flood challenges.?

We awoke this morning to heavy rain. It lasted about an hour and gave us close to two inches of rain.

Our yard is soggy and out pool is filled to the brim.

The sun is shining now. Will there be more rain though?

The surface Atlantic high continues to generate through today an occasional brisk wind across the area. Moreover, a weakening trend is foreseen for the latter part of the weekend and onto the beginning of next week. Furthermore, seas could still get fairly rough over the exposed waters today and boaters should continue to exercise caution over these zones. Cloudy spells with shower activity otherwise persists during the course of this morning and expected to diminish in the afternoon.

So of course my husband is out sailing around the island today in the annual Captain Oliver?s Regatta.

Be careful out there, sailors!

The sun was shining this morning but it is gray and cloudy now and drizzling.

The forecast calls for:

??An upper level disturbance will combine with a surface trough and local effects to produce some cloudiness and scattered showers across the islands during the next 24 hours. Locally these showers could be heavy and accompanied by thunder resulting in some minor street flooding. Otherwise, seas are expected to be moderate to locally choppy over exposed areas.?

Good Morning

Last night St. Maarten had some much needed rain but as often happens too much fell too quickly. We had quite some problems with flooding last night as a result, and this morning schools are closed while the government tries to clean up the roads.

The sun is shining now but we are forecast to have more rain coming.

Romney: Overpaying taxes disqualifies president

JERUSALEM (AP) ? Mitt Romney says that if he paid more taxes than were required, he wouldn't be qualified to be president.

The U.S. presidential candidate tells ABC News that American voters expect candidates to pay "only what the tax code requires." He says he hasn't calculated what percentage of his income was paid in taxes but says that he's been audited.

Romney's vast personal wealth has been an issue in the campaign.

Democrats have criticized him for paying only 13.9 percent of his income in taxes during the one year his taxes have been made public.

Romney says he will release an additional year of returns before Election Day. That has left some questioning whether Romney pays a smaller share than other Americans.

JUST LIKE BEING THERE

A technologically savvy volunteer worker did his best to circumvent not having a ticket to the big show.

He stood just across the bridge from the stadium and streamed the ceremony on his cell phone. A crowd of six more disenfranchised workers quickly gathered around him.

"That's 10 a piece please," Timothy Harris joked.

Thank heaven for technology. He worried his power may run out before the show ended, so he was lining up others for potential replacements.

As the helicopters lowered the glowing rings into the stadium everyone oohed and awwwed.

"That is fantastic," Harris said. "Well done guys."

So close, but so far away.

"It's seriously sad," one woman said.

PERFORMERS PREPARE

Behind Olympic Stadium lies a staging area for some participants in the opening ceremony. They gather and hear an encouraging organizer yell through a megaphone: "Break a leg!"

Then they walk a bridge over the River Thames and into the stadium. It's quite a breathtaking entrance for the biggest show on the planet, and some just have to let out primal screams as they prepare for their big moment.

CEREMONY SECURITY

Security lines, or lack thereof, are moving easily at the Olympic Park. It does feel a bit like stumbling onto a military base ? fresh-faced young soldiers in uniform are everywhere, and every single X-ray machine and scanner is manned by soldiers rather than other organizing committee staff.

So many soldiers that some are just standing around, waiting for a crushof spectators that has not yet materialized.
