The411 with Sherlene Shanklin:? Today, Spalding University and the Board of Trustees announced that Ambassador Shabazz as the Executive-in-Residence.? I know you are saying to yourself "That name sounds so familiar".? Shabazz is the eldest daughter of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X Shabazz.? She's a graduate of the United Nations International School and she studied international law at Briarcliff College in New York. ?

Ambassador Shabazz will be the Executive-in-Residence for the 2013-2014 academic year.? The diplomat, producer and writer has spent over 35 years advocating for peace and justice while developing curriculum and programs for many educational institutions, executive forums and organizations all over the world.? Spalding's goal is to help broaden Spalding's community outreach to be more globally minded and facilitate building community relationships through restorative practices. ?

She says "I'm honored to have been invited to Spalding University to join efforts in this inaugural capacity to realize the many ways in which compassion and restorative practices benefits and impacts our our daily lives directly and interchangeably, both as host and receiver."

Shabazz is founder of the Pilgrimage Foundation, which honors her father's spiritual journey to the Holy Land.? She's also the Ambassador-at-Large for Belize.? That appointment took place in 2002. ?
I sat down with Ambassador Shabazz when she was in Louisville about two years ago.? She was so poised, and gracious to answer my many questions.? I knew she had some great stories about her career, childhood and her special moments with her parents.? We also talked about Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X's friendship.? I look forward to catching up with Ambassador Shabazz so she can update me on her latest ventures.
